Website Design Process
The goal of this page is to educate you on the process of having your website built, from start to finish. From the free initial consultation to the moment your website goes live, you are in the loop and an integral part of the design process.
Terms and Conditions
Please make sure you have read these. It is a good idea to read the Terms and Conditions before the initial consultation to avoid any misunderstandings.
Initial Consultation (free)
This is where we discuss what your needs and expectations are. At this point you are under no obligation to purchase a website. The primary goal of this session is to make sure we are both on the same page about what you need from a website and that a website can fulfill those needs.
Payment of 50% Deposit
Once we come to an agreement about what your website needs are, it’s time to pay the 50% deposit. Go there now.
How the Design Queue Works
When the initial deposit for your project is paid, the project is put into the design queue. When your project becomes first in the queue we will check to see if you are ready with all content and that final payment can be made upon completion of the project. If you need more time, your project can be placed at the end of the design queue again to allow more time for you to prepare.
Prepare Your Content
This is your responsibility. It’s best to begin this right away. Once your spot in the design queue opens up, the remainder of the process is quick. The content needs to be prepared before it’s time to add it to the website to avoid delays. It is a good idea to lay out multi-page designs in an outline format. Websites are well suited for this type of structure.
Domain (If you don’t already have one)
A domain is the address of your website. It costs money to register a domain. Since the cost of domain registration is relatively minimal, one year of domain registration is included for new domains. If you do have a domain already, your website can be installed on that domain.
One Year of Hosting
Once the domain is purchased, it must be hosted on a server. A server is like a computer, but it serves the purpose of housing the files needed to host a website. Hosting also costs money. One year of hosting with preferred provider anhosting.com is included in the purchase price of your website. If you would like to purchase hosting with another provider, please do so and then be prepared to provide the login information needed to install your website.
Your Choice of Two Designs
Two mock up designs will be prepared for you. You get to choose which of the two you prefer. All further development will be completed based on the design you choose at this point.
Revision Session
Once your design is selected, it’s time to express what you like and what you don’t like about the design. For example, the color scheme can be changed, the location of the menu can be changed, the font (lettering) type and size can be changed, and the size and shape of any of the elements of the website can be changed.
Design Finalization
Now that you have had your say about revising the initial mock up, design finalization can begin. Any changes you have requested will be made during this phase and then the website design will be prepared. This stage involves creating all of the files necessary for a functional website.
Content Management System Setup
You content management system is installed and set up in preparation for the installation of your website. For any website built on a CMS, you will be able to use it for editing and expanding your website whenever a change is needed. Training will be provided once your website is complete.
Additional Components
The Plus package will include components that will need to be added to or incorporated into your website. Those components will be created during the design finalization stage if they are required for the design to function or display properly, or right after the design is finalized if the additional components are not part of the original design.
Website Installation and Setup
This is the stage where all of the files for your website are uploaded and installed onto the server. Once complete, any final needed adjustments are made to your website. As soon as the website exists, we are ready to added content.
Google Analytics Setup
A Google Analytics account will be set up for you and integrated into your website. Google Analytics tracks visits to your web pages and the source of the incoming traffic.
Content Addition
This would be the content you prepared earlier. If the content is already prepared and it is in outline form, this step is quick and painless. Minor corrections to spelling and grammar will be made at no additional charge.
Search Engine Optimization
Your website will receive basic Search Engine Optimization including plugins for your content management system that will automate many common SEO tasks as well as content editing suggestions that will help with your optimization.
Search Engine Submission
Now it’s time to announce your website to the world by submitting it to the three most popular search sources Google, Yahoo, and Bing.
Final Payment
It’s time to make final payment and take over your website. Get started now.
Content Management Training
Training will be provided for websites that include a content management system. This should not take more than one hour of your time. It really is simple to use. If you intend to use your website to display items like photos and videos that you create yourself, the training session can be extended another hour to include some practice sessions uploading and displaying media content.
